You will complete the following:
Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship + 2 GPhC Accredited Courses delivered by the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) – Medicines Counter Assistant and Accredited Dispensing Assistant Course.
NPA Courses will commence around 8 weeks after you have been enrolled on the Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship. NPA Courses must be completed within the first 12 months of employment at the Pharmacy.
Your Retailer Level 2 Apprenticeship will be delivered by Qube Learning who are a National Training Provider. As a student within Qube Learning you will have a dedicated Skills Tutor who will visit you every 4 – 6 weeks and deliver a bespoke teaching and learning session.
Your Apprenticeship Training Programme + NPA Courses should be completed in around 15 months. Functional Skills (Maths and English) may form part of your programme.
Role responsibilities and duties:
- Receive and verify prescriptions in accordance with Pharmacy procedures to ensure that the appropriate checking procedures are always adhered to with regard to exemption check or prescription item payment
- To refer questions regards drug information to a pharmacist or appropriate team member
- Ensuring stock is managed appropriately, this will include; ordering from suppliers, managing and reducing out of date products, monitoring the turnover of product lines in branch and ensuring that an agreed range of medicinal products are available for patient self-care
- Ensure that Pharmacy cash and banking procedures are always followed diligently
- The role will be responsible for ensuring that money and other property of Pharmacy is handled to avoid any loss
- Sell ‘pharmacy only’ and GSL medicines to patients, using appropriate questioning to ensure that medicines are being used appropriately and to identify and refer any warning symptoms. This will be undertaken with the supervision of a pharmacist in accordance with the GPhC guidelines
- Co-ordinate, support and carry out services commissioned to the pharmacy in accordance with contractual arrangements. For example, minor ailments, C-card provision, alcohol intervention and brief advice service and smoking cessation where appropriate. This includes engaging patients in services that will be delivered by other colleagues, for example NHS Health check, Medicines Use Reviews
- Support the patients in improving their own health by engaging with the Healthy Living Pharmacy model. To take opportunity to discuss public health topics with patients. To identify unknown needs, make and record simple interventions or signposting the patient
- Assist customers with their questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medicines information
- Ensure that prescription, contractual and company documentation is maintained and stored appropriately in accordance with company policy
- Administrative duties will include answering telephones, booking out and filing sold item forms, pricing stock and ensuring the pharmacy is kept clean and tidy, always maintaining a profession image
Health and Safety:
Adhere to all aspects of the Pharmacy company policy, Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, ensuring good hygiene, cleanliness and a safe environment in the pharmacy
General:
At all times maintain absolute confidentiality
Attend training courses as suggested by the Pharmacy Manager or agreed as part of a Personal Development Plan
Be pro-active in developing new initiatives in the pharmacy
Be prepared to cover the work of colleagues when they are absent through annual Leave, illness or any other planned/unplanned absence
