CHILD CARE

  • To be responsible for the safety and welfare of the children.
  • To promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, educational and social development of the children.
  • To ensure that there is a stimulating and varied programme of activities available to the children at all times.
  • To ensure that the children are offered a nutritious and varied diet, appropriate to their age and development.
  • To encourage, through example, alternatives to sexual stereo-typing imposed by society
  • To ensure that the children are kept clean, and encouraged to wash their hands, wipe their noses etc. The children must always be escorted to the toilet.
  • To be aware of the effect that racism in society and in ourselves has on children; to give every child in the nursery a positive image of its own particular ethnic background, through the attitude of staff and by the use of play and display materials.
  • To notify the officer-in-charge or his/her deputy when each child is collected by their parent/carer.

 ADMINISTRATION

  • To keep progress records and reports the children.
  • To develop and maintain a warm and supportive relationship with the parents, children and staff.
  • To participate in planning activities.
  • To ensure that all toys, equipment and materials are safe for the use of pre-school children, and in a good state of repair. Toys must be washed once a week.
  • To perform any other duties required at the discretion of the officer-in-charge or management.

Apprenticeship Delivery: Work based qualification. A tutor will visit you every 4-6 weeks in your workplace.

  • Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Standard
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English (if no prior exemption)

What will be involved at level 2?

The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship is made up of several components which develop the practitioner’s knowledge, skills and behaviour.

The programme is spread across 12 months and covers 11 units across 2 themes:

Following enrolment and induction, programme units are grouped into 2 themes which complement each other. These are:

  1. Health, Safety & Wellbeing
  2. Children’s Learning & Development

As part of government policy to raise the quality of an apprentice’s learning, a ‘20% off the job learning’ policy applies to apprenticeships. Off-the-job training can include training that is delivered at the apprentice’s normal place of work but must not be delivered as part of their normal working duties.
