The successful candidates will complete an apprenticeship focusing on all of The Harmon Groups key activities. These include:

  • Turning
  • Milling
  • Grinding
  • Fabrication
  • Inspection

You will learn 

  • Learn to operate machinery and then later learning to set then programme
  • Learn to use inspection equipment and check work in production
  • Learn to read technical drawings
  • To understand work holding options and how to produce fixturing and work holding
  • Learn tooling options for different materials and how to alter feeds and speeds to tackle issues
  • If in doubt on what is required ask as opposed to presuming
  • Operate machines when running and inspect work to KP03CL1. Deburr work during cycle to aid workflow where possible
  • Monitor run time matches time on card and notify supervisor when not
  • Ensure tool packs go back to tool stores in good state and request any replacement tooling that may be required
  • Maintain clean and organized workspace to reduce FOD and improve workflow
  • Complete daily maintenance and check sheets to ensure machines are well maintained
  • Keep machines free from swarf build up regularly to prevent machinery failure
  • Use overhead cranes or portable cranes for any heavy lifting requirements. Seek supervisor if in doubt
  • Complete route card documentation in line with company policy
  • Use appropriate inspection equipment and notify Supervisor if such equipment is not available  
  • Comply with company Health and Safety requirements

We are looking for candidates who have got or expect to get 4 GCSE grades 4/C or above or equivalent to include English, maths and science.

About the employer

Harmon Group was founded in 1964, offering a manufacturing, grinding and tooling facility for the Aerospace, Defence and Commercial Markets. It has since developed into a key supplier to many of the tier 1 + 2 client base. It is a family run business which is wholly owned by the Harmon family with a track record of training and developing apprentices, and many of the senior managers and directors began as apprentices.

Their services include CNC, fabrication, metal treatments, welding and grinding.
