At Sunbeams we see looking after children as not just a job, but a vocation. We know what works well, but we are always evaluating, observing and striving for improvement.
In this fast-paced, ever changing world we need to be bringing up children who are critical thinkers; creative, resilient, confident and inquisitive. We are not here to just teach them about numbers and letters but to give them skills for life.
Children need our time, our attention and our knowledge; but they also need space to experiment, try it out, get it wrong and figure it out for themselves. If we always give them the answers and wrap them in cotton wool they will never truly learn, and if they don’t learn that getting it wrong is okay then where will our future scientists, explorers, philosophers and teachers come from?
At Sunbeams EVERY child is valued and encouraged to be the best that they can be; keeping them safe and busy while allowing them the space and time needed to really enjoy learning.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Keeping the setting clean and tidy
- Assisting with setting up activities
- Taking care of the children's needs as and when required
- Ensuring the wellbeing of the children in the nursery's care at all times
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
Punctual, reliable, flexible and enthusiastic. Someone who doesn’t mind being silly with young children to help them learn.
Personal qualities
Ability to use own initiative, keen to learn, good manner with children.
Desired qualifications
Ideally GCSE maths and English grades A*-C (4-9) or equivalent. Applicants without this will be considered but will need to undertake a functional skills programme at Yeovil College as part of their training.
Future prospects
The settings are new and growing, this is a great time to start, learning in a quieter, smaller setting and become part of a new team. Long term prospects are further training to continue professional development, the company encourages personal growth and development in its staff – previous long-standing employees have gone on to study teaching, child psychology and speech therapy.
Things to consider
Childcare and education is not just playing with children – it is being creative, understanding how children learn, writing observations and dealing directly with parents. The right candidates will receive good mentorship and help from senior staff as they learn.
We also spend a lot of time outside as children thrive in the outdoors.
About the employer
Long established childcare setting in Poole and Ferndown have recently opened 2 new settings near Blandford.
We are looking to encourage people of any age to come into childcare as a career as there is a national shortage of staff. We have a good staff retention rate as we value staff input to the running of a highly successful and good quality nursery, pre-school and forest school settings.
