The Dental Nurse Apprenticeship role at JDRM Dental Care LTD will include the following day to day duties and responsibilities:
- Keeping the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practice’s health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers' instructions
- Using all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order
- Provide chair side assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment is available
- Ensure the care and welfare of patients
- Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed
- Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies
- Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted
- Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery
- Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored
- Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records
- Attend and participate in practice meetings
- Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (perhaps including the duties and tasks of receptionist as required)
- Undergo training as may be required to develop skills and abilities
- Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct

Desired skills
- A good bedside manner. A visit to the dentist can be a nerve-racking experience for many, so a Dental Nurse needs to be both confident and reassuring
- Good organisational skills are a must with such a variety of tasks to complete
- Ability to work as part of a team. A Dental Nurse is there primarily to provide support
- Ability to work under pressure. Dental procedures can be tricky affairs and a Dental Nurse has to be on the ball to see that everything goes smoothly
- A sympathetic nature is vital as Dental Nurses provide care to a great variety of people including children and those with disabilities or special needs
- Customer service skills
Personal qualities
- We are looking for a candidate who is friendly, reliable, positive and sympathetic to the needs of our patients
- You will also need to be organised, be able to use your initiative and willing to learn new skills
Desired qualifications
English and maths GCSE grade C/4 or above (or equivalent level 2 qualification).

Things to consider
The Dental Nurse's role can be stressful at times due to the range of tasks and roles they must perform. There is pressure to perform efficiently and always with regard to the patient's emotional well-being. Much of the day is spent standing so the job can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Being a Dental Nurse is not a job for the faint-hearted, but would suit individuals motivated by challenge and the chance to really help people where needed.
Interview, closing date and possible start dates are only a guideline as interviews for this position will be held on an ongoing basis, therefore the start date could alter as the vacancy will close as soon as a successful candidate is selected.
The successful candidate will be required to have a Hep B vaccination and a DBS check.
It is a mandatory requirement that applicants will have had their Covid 19 vaccines to work in a dental practice.
Attendance on the dental nursing course at Leicester College is mandatory requirement for this position.

- The advanced apprenticeship programme will require you to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing
- This is a 15 unit programme of which 11 units are portfolio based and assessed in the workplace. The remaining 4 units are theory based and delivered via eLearning
- Alongside the structured training programme offered through the apprenticeship, JDRM Dental Care LTD will also provide you with a full induction programme and continuous mentoring and support from our experienced and qualified staff
