You will be working alongside qualified Electrical Engineers, who will teach both the practical and theoretical applications needed to become a qualified Engineer.

You will start off with basic tasks, such as, handling tools, fetching material and assisting with cable pulling for example, but as time goes by, will undertake more complex tasks and will at times be set independent work to complete, which will be checked by senior staff onsite.

The apprentice will be expected to work with our Training provider (JTL) to document and record all work-based activities to evidence their progression towards gaining the technical
qualifications required. D&T will also continuously monitor your performance to ensure the required standards and being met and the apprentice can keep progressing to the next stage in there learning.

The apprentice will also attend a training center in Culham, Oxfordshire every 4 weeks for 1 week blocks in the first 2 years and in the 3rd & 4th year you will attend college for a few days during the year and will be expected to compile an evidence folder to show the JTL assessors that you can perform your role.Once the above is completed a final exam will be taken called the AM2 Practical exam. Once this is passed you will become a Qualified Electrical Engineer.

Once you have completed your Apprenticeship and have qualified as a Electrical Engineer you will be experienced in the following areas:

  • Qualifications in BTEC Level 3 in Electrotechnical
  • ECS Gold card holder
  • 18th Edition certified
  • The installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, devices, appliances and equipment in domestic, industrial, commercial, leisure and agricultural buildings, structures and environments.
  • Electrical scientific principles and technologies
  • Design and installation practices and procedures
  • Terminations and connections of conductors
  • Inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification
  • An understanding of the Requirements of BS7671
  • Principles of high-quality customer service and the needs of others
  • Apply health & safety and environmental legislation working practices

  • The advertised Apprentice wage will increase yearly or upon completion of progressive stages. After initially qualifying, you could go on to supervisory roles, senior management positions or even running your own business

The JTL electrical installation apprenticeship is an Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3 lasting approximately four years. As a JTL apprentice you'll be in full time employment with a local company receiving a good wage from day one.

You'll spend time learning your trade by gaining hands-on-experience working on-site with your employer, as well as attending a JTL approved college or training centre to learn the theoretical knowledge you will need.

For the Advanced Apprenticeship, the framework reflects a higher level of competence and knowledge, for electricians, the competence and knowledge elements are combined in a qualification called the ‘Level 3 Diploma in InstallingElectrotechnical Systems & Equipment  (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)’

This structure is reflected in the new electrical framework as follows, with ELTOC1 being the industry specific requirement:

  • A Diploma at Level 3 (the competence part)
  • A knowledge based element at Level 3
