The main responsibilities for the role will be:
- To carry out work in any kitchen/back of house areas as requested by the Head Chef
- Ensure that all areas and equipment are cleaned to the highest of standards
- Ensure that all food items are stored correctly and stocks are rotated in line with food hygiene regulations, as well as maintaining temperature monitoring
- To ensure that all equipment, cutlery, crockery, glass wear etc is stored correctly and allocated to correct areas and that all breakages are reported
- To carry out work at a sufficient rate and quality to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen among many others
In this role you will be able to learn and develop cooking skills, cooking knowledge, teamwork and communication skills, H&S & food safety knowledge.
A typical day can look like this!
- Chopping ingredients and preparing recipes such as preparing meat and vegetables
- Stock control ensuring rotation and freshness
- Maintaining high levels of cleanliness by following hygiene protocols
- Accepting and unloading deliveries from suppliers
- Measuring ingredients so that recipes are followed for consistencies
This is a 12 months apprenticeship, rotating across all our different kitchens.

Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship Standard.
Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to take the tests for this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
All new starters will be attending a company induction day where they will learn about the Hotel, H&S, the main policies and procedures and benefits.
They will also attend a 2h induction to Costumer Service on the day.
New starters will be provided with a buddy for the first two weeks of their employment. The buddy will act as a mentor training them and guiding them through their first weeks at work. The buddy will remain available throughout their employment as a main point of contact and support.
We will enrol new starters on our online training platform where they will be able to do online training. Topics include, H&S safety, Food Safety, Allergen Awareness, Multiple COVID 19 trainings, Effective Teams, Disability Awareness, Guest Service etc.
