Future prospects

Our engineers are currently earning circa 40K whilst on shift. Any apprentice would be put onto a full Multi-Skilled Engineer salary upon successful completion of their apprenticeship and after a subsequent successful trial period.


All the current Engineering Supervisors have been promoted from shift positions within the company as had the previous Head of Engineering

Things to consider

The position will be based in Attleborough, Norfolk and college will be at Wisbech, Cambs so it is essential that the applicant has a reliable method of transport. 

There will NOT be a requirement to carry out shift work in the first three years of the apprenticeship, Working week will be Monday-Friday 8.5 hr day shifts. An Apprentice of 16-18 Years old working week will be 40 Hours per week (8 hours a day)

We are committed to giving all our apprentices every opportunity to excel within their apprenticeship so any study time required during the working week will be given as long as it is seen to be beneficial.

We will supply all and any PPE required for either work or college as well as any tools required for work.

Apprentices will spend time with each of our teams (PPM, Front line, Fab shop) to ensure they all have a rounded knowledge of engineering throughout their apprenticeship.   

National minimum wage will be paid in the first year and will be reviewed on a regular basis and increased dependent upon performance in the workplace and at college.

About the employer

At Banham Poultry we process approximately 600K chickens a week at our factory in Attleborough, Norfolk. The engineering department supports all operations on site utilising our 30+ multi-skilled engineering team.

College training will take place at the College of West Anglia Wisbech campus over 4 years.

The successful applicant will attend college for three days a week in year one, two days a week in year two and one day a week in year three to achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma qualification in Food and Drink Engineering Maintenance.  Year four will be revision of the modules to support the end point assessment:
