As a Construction Apprentice what will I be doing?
This role will include placing of orders, assistance valuing work undertaken by suppliers and sub-contractors, administration, assisting the review of contract documentation, liaison with design, production and installation functions.
What you will do in the short term
- Initially you will spend time learning about the products and services we offer
- When you are confident with the products and services that we offer, you will be shown how to place and review supplier/sub-contractor orders and valuations, prepare contract programmes and assist in the review of new contracts
- Once proficient in the duties detailed in the second bullet point, you will be shown how to value and claim for the work which we have completed on our projects
- You will also attend college on day release to broaden your knowledge and skillset
What will you do in the longer term?
As you become proficient in the core duties, you will be given further training and responsibility to undertake the commercial duties for various projects and as you progress through the formal learning process via college day-release you will eventually be given lead commercial responsibility for one, then more projects as you progress from apprentice to Quantity Surveyor.
In addition to the apprenticeship training, you will receive hands on experience including mentoring and coaching from experienced members of the team. On this apprenticeship programme you will learn a range of skills.

Things to consider
This role may involve some travelling, specifically in order to attend the training facility to undertake your academic training, as such a driving licence would be beneficial.
A career in construction may involve being based on projects in various locations.
Please note that the wage does vary depending on age, see further details below:
- Candidates aged 16-17 £4.81 per hour (£180.37 per week)
- Candidates aged 18-20 £6.83 per hour (£273.20 per week)
- Candidates aged 21- 22 £9.18 per hour (£367.20 per week)
- Candidates aged 23+ £9.50 per hour (£356.25 per week)
These hourly rates are significantly higher the National Apprenticeship Rate and would continue to increase as you are progressing within this exciting company.
