You will learn a variety of tasks and skills related to this position including: 

  • Relevant national and industry health and safety standards and legislation relevant to aluminium for construction
  • Engineering codes and standards
  • Fundamentals of engineering and design 
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD), including 2D and 3D modelling general engineering/manufacturing mathematical and scientific principles, methods, techniques, symbols, and calculations as required for the range of systems supplied
  • Knowledge of aluminium and steel alloy properties and their characteristics
  • Determining client's requirements through detailed analysis of construction drawings, bill, and verbal communications
  • Liaise with architects, site and design managers
  • Attend pre-contract design meetings
  • Attend internal handover meetings
  • Produce detailed CAD drawings for client approval
  • Producing design work in accordance with project programmes
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Manufacturing and construction methods
  • Assembly of engineered components 
  • Stocktaking 

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Effective communication skills - both written and oral
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong IT skills, with ability to quickly learn new systems
  • Excellent organisational skills, including ability to manage own time and meet deadlines
  • Experience with AutoCAD is advantageous
  • Experience within the aluminium for construction or construction products industry is desirable but not necessary

Desired qualifications

3 GCSE at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including maths, English and a science.
