Working alongside the chefs on duty in producing lunch time hot meals and desserts for residents and assisting with supper meals. Producing pasties and cakes for functions and afternoon tea. Assisting with vegetable preparation as all food is cooked fresh daily. Monitoring deliveries. Cleaning of the kitchen under HACCP.

Main Duties: • Assisting in the food preparation process. • Cooking and preparing elements of high-quality dishes. • Preparing vegetables, meats and fish. • Assisting other Chefs. • Helping with deliveries and restocking. • Assisting with stock rotation • Cleaning of kitchen.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Basic food knowledge (some experience in kitchens would be beneficial). Basic knife skills.

Personal qualities

Works well under pressure. Works well with others. Good communication skills. Good time management. Being prompt for the start of the working day.

Desired qualifications

It would be an advantage to have GCSE’s in the 4 to 9 (A* to C) range or equivalent for English and maths, but this is not essential as you will complete Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship if necessary.

Future prospects

To be confident and able to run any food service on their own from preparing to cooking and serving. To trouble shoot any issues that can occur daily.

Hot environment. Overtime to cover annal leave and sickness. Transport.

About the employer

We are a residential care home for older people, we have events within the home such as regular activities, visiting entertainers, residents go out for outings in our mini bus, we provide personal care to our residents who require this identified need, we have a small Dementia friendly wing for residents who require extra help, we have care for our residents who may require end of life care. We are a small care home and we accommodate 38 residents and the building is a Grade 2 listed, plus we have wonderful grounds where we have 4 gardeners. We cater for individual choices, for example Diabetic, gluten free etc.
