You will learn a variety of tasks and skills related to this position including: 

  • Health and safety regulations
  • General engineering/manufacturing mathematical and scientific principles, methods, techniques, symbols, and calculations as required for manufacturing the range of systems supplied 
  • Knowledge of aluminium and steel alloy properties and their characteristics
  • Problem solving
  • Manufacturing processes and co-ordinating orders in manufacture 
  • Processing orders for manufacture using Sage 50 Accounts software and producing manufacturing drawings
  • Interpretation of architectural and manufacturing drawings
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers and internal departments
  • Recording quality and quantity checks
  • Co-ordination of manufactured items and bought in materials
  • Operating a stringent goods-in and goods-out procedure 
  • Identifying the most cost-efficient methods of transport
  • Organising transport through the company's networks of hauliers and couriers
  • Assembly of engineered components & stocktaking

The training duration of the Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard is usually 42 months, plus up to an additional 3 months to complete the End-Point Assessment.

Full training will be provided by the employer with day release to be carried out at OTC. 

Qualifications could include:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - for all starts from 1st July 2017
