Shifts to be confirmed but they will be varied from Tuesday to Sunday. The kitchen is open 9am – 9pm the hours and shift pattern will depend on the age of the apprentice.

As part of this role you will be required to study towards the Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard at Colchester Institute.
The Coast Inn is a family run establishment that is on the sea front in Mersea Island. The role will be working and training alongside our core kitchen team.
Cleaning and maintain our 5-star food hygiene rating, including documentation and implementing new requirements.
You would be trained in each section and have the opportunity to create your own dishes to be considered for inclusion.
Our desserts are made from scratch including specials, fish is delivered fresh daily and requires prepping. We make in house our own pate, lasagne, chowder to name but a few items on our ever-changing menu. We work with fresh local ingredients with the emphasis on seafood.

- Maintain cleaning schedule
- Stock rotation
- Helping to looking after and cellar including cask beers
- Food preparation service
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
- You must have a good understanding of the English language
- The ability to listen
- Excellent personal hygiene
- Industry experience is of benefit but not essential
Personal qualities
- Good communicating and listening in a loud busy environment

- A keen interest in food
Desired qualifications
- GCSEs including maths and English at grades A*-E/9-2 or equivalent
- All candidates will be required to complete Colchester Institute's mandatory initial assessment process before being put forward to the company. This will consist of online assessments
Future prospects
- You will work through each section and have the opportunity to progress which will also be reflected your hourly rate (all staff equally share any tips) One of our current head chefs started with us as an apprentice
Things to consider
- The Coast Inn is on Mersea so transport is affected by the tide
- In the summer the shifts can be very hot and fast paced
- We are open 7 days a week and into the evening, the only day of the year we are closed is Christmas day, so there will be work required on occasions such as; Christmas, Easter, Bank Holidays and other special occasions
- Shifts could be 35 - 40 hours per week and depending on the apprentices age will depend on the shift pattern (in line with age guidelines)
