Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.55 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £6.95 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
- Preparing the ground (including earthworks and drainage)
- Turfing and seeding lawns
- Planting and pruning trees and shrubs
- Putting in other plants
- Installing features like paving, paths, water features and rock gardens
- Constructing rock or water gardens.
Requirements and prospects

- Knowledge of health and safety

- Able to work in a team
- Able to work independently
- Willing to learn.
GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths A-E
Possible permanent position after successful completion of apprenticeship.
Things to consider
This is hard work and you will be working in all weather conditions. You will also be expected to complete any work set by your assessor Must have a keen interest in working in landscape gardening Make sure you can travel to the employer easily. From the 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Derwent Treescapes was Established in 1971 and has grown into the successful company seen today. The company provide several services as follows: Tree Surgery; Tree Reports; Landscape Construction; Landscape Design; Site Clearance. Derwent Treescapes also have a tree and shrub Nursery open to the public
It will be work based training and an assessor will be assigned to you to work through and help you complete a Level 2 work based diploma in Horticulture portfolio. You will also undertake functional skills and personal thinking learning skills to gain the full framework.
