  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
  • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required.  Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
  • Enter requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor
  • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours, either on the computer or manually
  • Prepare lists and notes for all surgeries and clinics held, ensuring completion of all associated paperwork
  • Enter patient information on to the computer as required

Desired qualifications

Level 1 English and maths (or equivalent to GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4).

You will gain office experience and skills and learn about the workings of a busy practice.

The apprentices will attend college once a week on a Monday as day release towards achieving their qualifications.

About the employer

Wells Park Practice is a well-established GP Surgery that has operated in this locality since 1984.  We provide services under a Personal Medical Services (PMS) Contract. There are currently about 11600 patients. Services are provided by 3 GP Partners (2 male and 1 female), one Managing Partner, and supported by a team of Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and administrative team.
