    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties will include:

  • Working as part of a team to ensure a smooth running of the setting
  • Planning and completing activities with children
  • Maintaining a safe, secure and caring environment
  • Assisting the Nursery team in providing high quality childcare
  • To support meal times within the setting
  • To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly

Qualifications required

Need one GCSE A*-C in English or Maths or equivalent. Previous work experience is required as this is will be supervisory role.

Future prospects

From a Level 3 Apprenticeship, you can progress into full time employment.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

We are a small friendly full-day care nursery which welcomes and serves a diverse community. Operating from a Scout hut, the nursery benefits from a large out door playing field as well as a smaller enclosed area, exclusively used for the nursery's children.
