D C Coachworks are recruiting for a Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Apprentice, to join their team in St Leonards. You will work within a small team, completing a variety of different tasks and no day is every the same. You will also attend college one day per week, in Eastbourne. You will learn to prep vehicles and paint them.

We will be interviewing throughout the recruitment period so the apprenticeship may start before the closing date.
Some of the key tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare, spray and finish vehicles that have been involved in collisions and other incidents in an efficient manner
- Ensuring correct colour match and final finish to the company and customers exacting standards
- Working alongside other Paint Technicians
- Prepare vehicles fully before painting to include masking, sanding and other necessary preparation work
- Keep all company tools and equipment safe and in a clean, workable condition paying particular attention to the reduction of any fire hazards
- Learning to select the correct materials such as primers, base coats and lacquers applied using spray equipment and utilising modern drying/curing techniques such as Ultra Violet (UV), Infrared and catalytic solutions used in the refinishing of vehicles
- Create a safe working environment
- Learning how to mix paint
- Working out how to calculate the amount of paint needed for a job

- A driving licence is desired but not essential. We collect and drop off cars frequently and share out the work between the team

Desired qualifications
Maths and English GCSEs, at grades C/4 and above, or equivalent are desired for this apprenticeship.
For those that don’t have qualifications in maths and English you will be required to undertake an initial assessment in maths and English to ensure you’re at a high enough level to complete the apprenticeship.
Future prospects
We are looking for someone that wants to stay with the company longer term after completing the apprenticeship. We are keen to train future talent.
Things to consider
After 3 months your salary will be reviewed based upon performance.
Day release will be from East Sussex College, one day per week, located at the Eastbourne Campus, located in Hampden Park. You will have to travel to the campus, once a week, term time only. The college is about a ten minute walk from the train station. Please ensure that you can travel to the employer and the college before applying.
About the employer
D C Coachworks based in St. Leonards-On-Sea have two sides to their business. The first half is the accident, repair and manufacturing part and the second side is the Prestige Restorations. Although your apprenticeship will be on the paint side, everyone at the company mucks in and is involved in the different parts of the company so you will gain some mechanical experience too.
You will join a close, knit team of six and get to work on a variety of different vehicles from expensive, luxury, high end vehicles to those used for Sussex & Surrey Police. We frequently work on classic and sports cars.
We have over 70 years worth of combined experience working on different cars and models. We are also a Peugeot & Citroen Approved Body Repair Centre.

- Level 3 Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Apprenticeship Standard, at grades Pass or Distinction
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (unless exempt).
20% of your contracted working hours will be spent on training. Training will be covered by day release, as well as being in the workplace. Common forms of training include completing written assignments, meetings with your assessor, being mentored and shadowing other members of staff. Throughout your apprenticeship you will be required to keep an off-the-job training log for any training that you complete.
