Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Working as part of a small team, the apprentice will prepare background surfaces for painting and decorating (including filling and rubbing down), apply paint by brush and roller, and hang wall coverings.

They must adhere to health & safety procedures at all times.

Requirements and prospects

Candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn.

Personal qualities

They must be punctual and physically able to perform the role, with a strong work ethic. They must be a good time keeper and a good team player. A keen attention to detail is essential. If offered a work trial, candidates must pass a CSCS test before they are allowed on site.

Access to a vehicle would be an advantage. 

Qualifications required

GCSE or equivalent Maths & English A to C preferred

Things to consider

This post is in the construction industry therefore there will be an element of travel to various workplaces. A driving licence and access to a vehicle will be an advantage.

The Company has been established for 15 years. They are a specialist painting and decorating contractor with a head office in Renishaw. They work on new-build housing sites across Sheffield, Rotherham, Penistone and Worksop. They currently employ 4 people.
