The role primarily involves repairing and maintaining all types of fixed plant, such as:

  • Aggregate processing equipment
  • Asphalt plants
  • Maunufacturing plant

The successful apprentice will also have the opportunity to learn:

  • Fault recognition on pneumatic / hydraulic systems
  • Welding fabrication
  • Pipe fitting

The apprentice would work within a team of ten people often working in small groups on projects.

The role will mainly be based at our site in Ashburton. However we look after plant in our other sites in Devon and Cornwall, so the apprentice will have opportunities to travel to those sites and repair and maintain the fixed plant at those sites.

Things to consider

A driving licence would be beneficial, unless local, as transport links to Ashburton are poor.

We are a local family run independent quarry, with 5 sites spread throughout Devon and Cornwall.

The quarry operates two quarries with its main limestone producing quarry based in Ashburton.

You will be working towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Engineering Technician - Machinist.

You will receive on and off the job training and support from an Apprenticeship Advisor and an assessor. 

You will be required to attend the Engineering Centre at Sisna Park on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training.
