Responsibilities will include:

  • Greet patients and visitors to the practice and maintain a welcoming disposition at all times
  • Answer general enquiries and explain surgery practices and procedures, navigate patients to the most appropriate health professional/service
  • Deal with patient appointments, acute and routine, face to face and over the phone (book, cancel, check in)
  • Guide patients to the appropriate waiting area
  • Receive and process requests for (repeat) medication prescriptions in accordance with the practice's repeat prescribing protocol
  • Deal with other patient queries such as FIT note requests
  • Take payments for and log private work (such as letters and insurance reports)
  • Hand out and take payments for dispensed medication
  • Deliver patient medical information when required – normal results on behalf of the clinical team
  • Ensure the reception area and waiting rooms are kept in tidy and neat condition
  • Maintain practice notice boards and ensure that the information displayed is kept tidy and up to date
  • Deal with incoming mail and parcels
  • Receive, sort and despatch pathology specimens in accordance with the relevant practice protocol
  • Shred confidential waste in accordance with practice procedures
  • Open surgery premises, check lighting and heating is on
  • Secure the building at the end of the day as and when required
