Reporting To: Technical Director & the Head of Technical Services (As per current organisational chart)                                

Main Duties:

Duties and work carried out as agreed with ‘Technical Director & the Head of Technical Services’ as necessary including calibration and minor repair works as specified on the Skills Matrix.


  • Able to use, interrogate and amend information on the Pro Cal System, ensure the system is fully filled in & any delays reported.
  • Print out procedures and amend them with the approval of the laboratory management team, print out certificates & labels.
  • Understand mathematical techniques, formula and calculations.
  • Produce technical documentation that contains all the relevant and necessary data and information required for the task.
  • Develop effective business and/or customer relationships.
  • Make any changes/amendments to technical documentation using agreed quality assurance control procedures.
  • Understand the requirements of the customer (internal/external) and support using the appropriate tools, equipment and processes.
  • Ensure that codes, symbols and other references used in technical documentation follows agreed UK/international conventions.

Desired qualifications

A minimum of 5 GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C) with a minimum of a grade 5/C in Maths.

Future prospects

Subject to the individual’s aptitude, training etc and application and accuracy promotion would be to the level of a Service / Calibration Engineer.

Things to consider

Some of your training will take place at York College (perhaps 1-2 days a week). Therefore please ensure that you're able to commute there regularly before applying.

Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard (Pathway 13 - Technical Support)

To include:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence). This includes 10 units of practical skills training that would take place at York College
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge). Attendance at York College on a day release basis over 2 years.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Technical Support Technician (Development Competence). A work based portfolio of competence to be assessed and co-ordinated by a STEGTA Training Officer in company.
  • End Point Assessment (EPA).The EPA process is comprised of an Employer Occupational Competence Validation Interview (Viva) which is quality assured by the Professional Engineering Institution (PEI).
