Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • To ensure the session runs smoothly and that ‘that sessions work is done within that session’
  • To ensure efficient processing and monitoring of prescriptions
  • To ensure efficient registration of new patients
  • To ensure efficient handling of items through reception
  • To act in the best interest of the practice, the patients and your fellow employees
  • To maintain complete patient confidentiality
  • To ensure that at all times, patients are greeted pleasantly, and dealt with in a courteous and efficient manner
  • To ensure that an active role is taken in the general duties to maintain an office that runs smoothly
  • To ensure efficient compilation and maintenance and filing of patients notes
  • To ensure that post, sample bags, telephone calls and emails are dealt with promptly and efficiently
  • To ensure all identifiable paperwork is locked away securely at the end of the day
  • To ensure the all the clinical rooms are secure, tidy and computers are switched off at the end of the day
  • To be proactive in seeking to acquire new skills which will be to the benefit to the practice and yourself in the role

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

It is essential that the candidate has good customer service and people skills and are able to work as part of a team and using their own initiative. They will have good written and verbal communication skills and an understanding of confidentiality issues.

The following skills and experience are not essential but would be an advantage:

  • Experience of working in a primary care setting
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Understanding of primary care systems
  • Computer literacy working knowledge of internet, email and electronic diary systems
  • Experience of managing own time, effective prioritisation and working to deadlines
  • Understanding of read coding processes

Personal qualities

  • We are looking for someone who can demonstrate initiative and have the ability to adapt to different working environments rapidly
  • They will project a professional image both in person and over the phone

Desired qualifications

  • GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in maths and English are essential
  • IT qualifications i.e. RSA/Excel/Word are desirable
