This is a four year Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship standard and will require the successful apprentice to attend college, In-Comm Training Services - Aldridge WS9 8UG, 3 days per week off for the first 18 months, and the company the remaining 2 days. You will then attend college, one day per week, for the outstanding duration of your apprenticeship.
You will study and be trained in all areas of manufacturing in order to become highly skilled in the operation of manufacturing technician and also manual methods where required to a standard that you can produce high precision cutting tools to company specifications.
Duties as a trained manufacturing technician:
- Interpret tool drawings supplied as hard copy
- Create most cost effective manufacturing route
- Select optimum cutting speeds and feeds for each stage of manufacture
- Produce tooling in line with customer requirements
- Checking the tooling dimensions using a range of measuring equipment to include digital micrometres, verniers, measuring machines (Walter Helicheck and PG2000)
- Conduct routine machine maintenance
