This is a responsible role within our Patient Services Team. Dealing directly with patients on the phone or in person handling sensitive information, medication details and personal medical history. Working with clinicians you'll support patients to the best course of action for their needs, whether a telephone call with a GP or calling 999.

We require a hardworking, friendly individual that thrives under pressure to join Newhall Surgery in the patient services team.

This is a very busy practice therefore can be challenging. We are looking to employ people who can remain calm and professional in difficult situations. You must be passionate about delivering excellent customer service.

Duties include

  • Making appointments both face to face and on the telephone
  • Scanning documents to patient records
  • Processing repeat prescriptions.  
  • To provide general assistance to patients and other visitors in a positive, professional and friendly manner, whether in person or via the telephone
  • Fully integrate with the wider team ensuring a professional and quality level of internal service at all times
  • To manage systems and policies ensuring that the highest administrative standards are achieved
  • Deal with patients’ requests, in a confidential, safe and appropriate manner, following the Practice protocol, in line with the Practice policies and procedures
  • Source information to deal with patient’s requests efficiently, directing patients to the most appropriate person to help them resolve their problems
  • Maintain all public and staff areas to a high standard throughout the day in line with all Practice Health & Safety procedures
  • Adhere to all GDPR and maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • To undertake administration duties as advised by your colleagues within the wider team

You will also be working with the wider surgery team ensuring the patients journey through the surgery is a smooth as possible.

You must be flexible with your time as there is a requirement that you will play a part in covering annual leave (with notice) in the close knit team.

  • Organized and being able to use initiative with support.
  • Use of I.T is key as all data at the surgery is electronic.

  • Professional approach to a demanding role.
  • Friendly polite and well presented.
  • In an environment that this pressurized the ability to empathize with patients and a sense of humour.

Desired qualifications

5 GCSE’s Grade A-C (or equivalent) in Maths and English is required

Experience of working within a health care setting is desireable but not essential

Development within the team and general understanding of Primary Care and the NHS

Things to consider

The surgery is a team and there are times when you are expected to work differently to enable us to provide services to the patients. Recent example is Covid vaccinations and our regular Flu season. We pull together and work additional hours (which are paid) to get the job done!

About the employer

Newhall Surgery is a busy GP Practice in the heart of Newhall, Swadlincote Derbyshire. We have 10500 patients. Our team consists of 6 GPs, 3 Nurses and a HCA. Our clincal team is supported by our Management/Patient Service and adminstraion team.
we also pride ourselves on our clinical training and we frequently have 2-3 GP Registrars on site and medical students.
