Customs Clearance, newly formed team since Brexit handling EU shipments now requiring customs clearance.
Supporting overall business with warehousing and forwarding team for clearances from outside the EU.
This includes office duties such as:
- Data input
- Taking calls from clients and colleagues
- Dealing with queries from other departments
Requirements and prospects
- Able to work on own initiative
- IT knowledge
- Team player
- Keen to learn
- Minimum 7 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C/Score 4/5 and above including maths and English
- A-levels/BTEC courses to have been completed
Burhill have several core departments the apprentice can gain different experiences in to gain experience in an industry that is gaining higher profile due to Brexit and the Covid Pandemic World applying demand and supply pressures to supply chains.
Freight – managing both global import and exports.
Warehousing – warehouses in both Felixstowe and Liverpool.
Transport – arranging trailers from the warehouses into the UK and across Europe.
Customs clearance – processing entries through the UK border.
These are supported by financial and commercial departments.
It is a busy dynamic industry with customer service to the fore at Burhill. Learning the operational aspects to the industry is critical to grow a successful career.
Things to consider
There may be potential for UK travel accompanied by a senior member of staff.
Occasion overtime maybe required at busy periods.
Customs qualification would be encouraged and supported by Burhill.
About the employer
Burhill are a medium sized employer based in Felixstowe, with 33 employees in the Felixstowe office team and an additional 10 warehouse staff in our own run facility.
We also have a 50% warehousing company in Liverpool, Burhill DCR Logistics, with a further 30 employees and a sister company at Heathrow, Burhill Cargocare, offering air-freight and customs services (7 employees).
The Felixstowe office is in the heart of the industry just 600 metres from the port.
