We are looking for candidates that have a mechanical interest across many types of machines. Candidates will need to have the ability to problem solve and work in a hands-on/practical role.

Spectrum Yarns Ltd is looking for 2 individuals to join the business as full-time apprentices, working in the textile processing facility to train up as maintenance technicians. 

The job does not require any specific knowledge of textiles, as all training will be provided on the job. It does, however, require candidates with the right attitude, aptitude and commitment working in a traditional mill setting.

The role will involve working within the spinning and winding department at the mill in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.

Duties include:

  • Machine preparation, running and ongoing control systems
  • Completing production documentation
  • adjusting machinery to optimise spinning production
  • Comply with maintenance schedules
  • Selecting and checking raw materials
  • Loading specialist textile production machinery
  • Monitoring work and recording defects

Successful candidates will be enrolled onto the Textile Manufacturing Operative Level 2 apprenticeship and work with the Textile Centre of Excellence to become competent Textile Operatives. Training will be split between onsite delivery and attendance at the Centre for day-release knowledge-based sessions. 

The knowledge element of the programme will be delivered over a 12 month period with tutoring and assessment from the Centre's dedicated Textile Training team.
