The successful applicant will work alongside our experienced and qualified staff to offer high quality care to children whilst following their programme of study on their Advanced Apprenticeship.



They will work with a variety of age groups, planning and carrying out fun and stimulating activities and assisting with the everyday running of the nursery.

 

The baby and toddler room caters for children from birth to 3 years old. The room has been set out into specific areas of learning and development to cover the entire curriculum.

 

The Montessori classroom caters for children from 3 years to school age.

  • A-C GCSE in Maths and English Language or equivalent.

Future prospects

On completion of this Apprenticeship the right candidate will be considered to remain in a permanent role within the setting and develop their level of responsibility.

Things to consider

The setting is in Sherborne. Individuals who already hold a Level 4 qualification are only eligible for funding for a Level 5 or above Higher Apprenticeship and are not eligible for funding for an Intermediate Level, Advanced Level or Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship. If you hold a degree you are not eligible for Apprenticeship funding, please contact us do discuss this further. The successful candidate will be subject to references and DBS vetting. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation Offenders Act 1976. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders against them. Failure to do so will result in instant dismissal. Having a criminal record will not automatically bar you from employment. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Our highly qualified staff deliver a welcoming and stimulating nursery environment. Our aim as a nursery is to provide the children with a well-balanced and varied time whilst they are at nursery, to encourage the children to communicate and join in alongside their peers and with the staff. We provide a Nursery and Pre-School provision for 0 - 5 years olds serving Sherborne, Yetminster, Yeovil  and surrounding areas and are open 51 weeks of the year.

    • Promoting diversity, equality and inclusion. 
    • Working in partnership with Colleagues and other professionals. 
    • Plan and implement activities, play opportunities and educational programmes. 
    • Promoting children’s health and welfare in the early years setting.
    • Promoting the health and Safety of children.
    • Plus optional units.
  • ICT Functional Skills L2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

 

Technical Certificate – designed to improve your knowledge and understanding of specific topics related to your trade.

 

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) – achieved through the tasks you do at work, NVQs are proof of your ability and practical skills.

 

Functional Skills: General skills that are used in every job, such as Communication and Application of Number.

 

Employment Rights and Responsibilities: A workbook for you to do to help you understand your rights and responsibilities as an employee, and your employer’s responsibilities towards you.

 

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS): Provide a framework for describing the qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life. The PLTS framework has been developed and refined over a number of years in consultation with employers, parents, schools, students and the wider public.

 

You will attend Yeovil College one day each week.

An Assessor will visit the setting to carry out observations.
