The role is varied and duties would include:

  • The preparation and maintain nominated sports and amenity surfaces and to assist with the initial marking and overmarking of the sports pitches, running tracks and field events
  • Will undertake gardening duties on site, ensuring lawn and grass areas are maintained, cultivated and repaired
  • Ensure borders, thoroughfares and highway footpaths clear and free from weeds and litter
  • Will assist/carry out gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing on school premises
  • Will assist with the erection and dismantling of sports equipment
  • Will ensure grounds and gardens comply with the appropriate health and safety legislation and conduct risk assessments when required
  • Will report faulty or damaged appliances, equipment or any potential hazards and ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure and undertake basic in-house repairs

Personal qualities

  • The ideal candidate must be keen to learn, enjoy a challenge, be honest, hardworking, reliable and personable and have a keen interest in horticulture/garden maintenance

Desired qualifications

  • Qualifications demonstrating sound literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. GCSE English and maths A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent qualifications) are desirable
  • Please ensure you have listed all qualifications & grades/predicted grades in the appropriate section of this application, paying particular attention to maths & English
  • Candidates will be screened as part of the recruitment process and must be able to work at Level 1 in Functional Skills (Maths and English) in order to undertake this Apprenticeship
  • Please note that candidates with any qualification at the same level or above in the same subject are ineligible for funding and will not be considered for an Apprenticeship

Sports Turf Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

Qualifications:

  • Apprentices will achieve the Apprenticeship Sports Turf Operative Level 2 certificate and will then be eligible to join the IOG Register of Turf Management Professionals

End Assessment Components:

  • The End Assessment forms 100% of the assessment of achievement of the apprenticeship standard
  • The End Assessment will contain 2 components
  • A written and online test which will assess knowledge and behaviours and will be assessed by an independent assessment organisation. This will be graded as Fail/Pass/Merit/Distinction weighted by 40%
  • A practical assessment assessing skills, behaviours and knowledge. This will be assessed by an independent assessment organisation. This will be graded Fail/Pass/Merit/Distinction weighted by 60%
