Our friendly team of 8 staff is looking for an Early Years Apprentice to join us from October 2021. The position requires an enthusiastic, caring and friendly person to work in our OUTSTANDING setting and be involved with promoting the Early Years Foundation Stage to our children aged between 1 and 3 years.

  • To provide high quality care for children aged 1 – 3 years under the direction of the Nursery Manager. To actively support the work of the company at both the Day Nursery and at ACE Nursery School.
  • To ensure at all times high standards of care, learning and development is achieved for all children, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Ensure high standards and good practice at all times.
  • Carry out duties as requested by the Manager, Deputy, Third In Charge or the ACE Parent Committee.
  • Contribute to staff meetings as requested.
  • To work towards gaining your training qualification and to undertake any other training required.
  • To maintain and promote good relationships with parents.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Desired qualifications

GCSE level education Minimum grade 3 or D in GCSE’s English & maths for Level 2 Apprenticeship. Or, grade A-C/ grade 4 for Level 3. Experience working with children, is preferred but not essential.



Future prospects

Potential of a position at the end if the apprentice has passed their qualification and shows enthusiasm and commitment for their role and ACE.

Things to consider

The staff team benefits from:  paid training with the Cambridgeshire Early Years team to further develop knowledge and practice; employer pension scheme contributions of 5% for employees with 0-5 years’ service, rising to 6% for 5-10 years’ service etc.); fresh fruit bowl; Christmas meal; discretionary bonus scheme.

About the employer

A small day nursery situated in the centre of Cambridge, providing care for 1 – 3 year olds.  


At ACE Day Nursery we value the importance of our community and outdoor environment. We involve the children in Forest School sessions and outings to local places of interest. We look after 17 children at any one time and have a free flow play environment with access to the garden. The nursery is open from 8.30am - 5.30pm daily and closes for about a week at both Christmas and Easter, along with a two-week closure at the end of August.

 We work closely with ACE Nursery School which was founded as a parents’ co-operative in 1966.

First-hand experience, knowledge of working in an early year setting, putting the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) into practice, policies and procedures.

Day release attendance for Level 2 apprentice is on a Wednesday at Cambridge campus, Friday’s for Level 3 apprentices.
