About the employer

In 1949 Don Roberto Gonzalez and his father formed Gruma S.A. in Monterrey, Mexico. Gruma quickly revolutionised the corn flour and tortilla industry. A new milling process was developed that replaced the centuries old stone grinding process. In 1977, Mission Foods was created as the tortilla subsidiary of Gruma SA de CV.

As world-leading manufacturer of wheat flour tortillas and corn flour products, Gruma export to over 50 countries and have an annual turnover in excess of $1bn. Following success in the South American and US marketplaces, Mission Foods Europe was launched in 1997. In 2000, our first purpose-built UK factory in Coventry has enabled us to increase distribution significantly and allowed us to offer tailor-made solutions for our customers.

Acquisition of new production facilities - Roermond (The Netherlands) in 2004, Ceggia (Italy) in 2004 and Seaham (UK) in 2006 - enabled us to create and meet an increasing demand for flat bread products here in Europe.

Our founder, Don Roberto Gonzalez Barrera, has led the company to success in the tortilla market by sticking to his belief in creating a quality product – a principle continued by existing Chairman and President Juan Gonzalez Moreno. That's why, whether it's the corn for milling or the product flavouring, Mission Foods insists on using ingredients of the very highest quality.

This is an exciting time for flat bread. The European market especially is a market that is anything but flat, as today's adventurous consumers demand a truly tasty alternative to the traditional sandwich.

Today, Mission Foods are one of the world's leading flat bread suppliers, manufacturing a quarter of all tortillas throughout the world. We have also expanded to manufacture tortilla chips, wraps, and other specialty breads. We now supply retail, sandwich manufacturers and foodservice sectors.

Acquisition of new production facilities - Roermond (The Netherlands) in 2004, Ceggia (Italy) in 2004, Seaham (UK) in 2006 , Cherkassy (Ukraine) in 2010, Moscow, in 2011 and Samsun ( Turkey) in 2011 has enabled us to create and meet an increasing demand for flat bread products here in Europe.

It is our mission to be the respected category leader in the manufacture and marketing of quality tortilla products by developing strong business partnerships across manufacturing, foodservice and retail markets.

Mission Foods Europe's vision is to become the leading innovative flat bread company through a mix of organic growth, new markets and channels supported by selective acquisitions.
