Our business is a family run organic farm in Leicestershire. We have a farm shop and butchers shop as well as rearing our own animals. This role is working in the butcher’s shop as part of the team.

The duties would include

  • Receiving deliveries, checking, and completing paperwork
  • Preparing, packing, and displaying meat
  • Helping to make sausages and burgers
  • Preparing customers’ orders
  • Cleaning the preparation and shop area and ensuring the environment is safe and hygienic
  • Helping to serve customers

Things to consider

You will be working in a chilled environment and are expected to be active for long periods of time. The ability to handle meat is essential to the role as well as using a knife and other equipment safely.

About the employer

Picks Organic Farm LTD was founded in 1999 and has been growing ever since. We are a family run business producing our own organic pedigree Hereford beef, old spot pork, grass fed lamb, free range chickens and eggs, seasonal Christmas poultry and seasonal local game. Our butchers cut, prepare, and pack our meat onsite which is sold to farm shop customers as well as at farmers markets and events around the country. Our butchers also prepare homemade burgers and sausages which we cook at food festivals and events.

Butcher Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

Full training will be provided on an on-going basis by your employer and training provider. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week. You will learn essential manual and knife skills over the course of the programme. You will also gain the following qualifications:

  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Knife Skills Level 2
