The successful applicant will be passionate about creating innovative and exciting food, whilst having the ability to keep cool under pressure, and an eagerness to learn new skills.

To enhance our team, we are seeking a motivated individual incorporating the following tasks and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will report to our head chef and their key responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare, cook and present food with a high standard for both functions and for our restaurant service
  • Complying with all Health & Safety Policies.
  • Ensuring cleaning jobs are carried out correctly

Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Preparation of salads and vegetables
  • Preparation of fish, meat and poultry dishes
  • Soups and sauces
  • Pastry and bread making
  • Cooking and finishing hot dishes
  • Preparing desserts
  • Maintaining Health & Safety in the Kitchen
  • Cleaning after service

Desired qualifications

While there are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship, you may be required to do an Initial Assessment to ascertain your suitability for the course.

If you do not hold a qualification in Maths & English at Level 1, you will be required to pass Functional Skills in these subjects prior to the completion of the apprenticeship.

No other specific qualifications are required as full training will be given. 

Future prospects

A successful apprenticeship will lead to a permanent position.

Things to consider

This role will involve working unsociable hours e.g. evenings and weekends and will be subject to a changeable shift.

This is an Apprenticeship Standard as a Commis Chef and will include a combination of on and off the job training in the workplace. You will have monthly mentoring and guidance at work from a Craven College Learning & Development Advisor alongside weekly college attendance. After 12 months you will be entered to undertake an End Point Assessment, conducted by an assessor from City & Guilds, to complete your Apprenticeship.

More information on course content and assessment methods will be discussed at interview.

If candidates do not have A*-C (4-9) in Maths & English at GCSE there will be a requirement to do Functional Skills up to Level 2.
