The role will include all tasks involved in day to day running of the 350 cow spring calving herd and 160 youngstock. The job will involve working with a team of 4 people checking and assisting calving cows, calf rearing. Milking and feeding cows and youngstock.

Main Duties:

  • Stock rearing, feeding and bedding
  • Work with farm veterinary surgeon, assistance in all stock related matters, e.g de-horning, worming and other routine calf work
  • Yard work, scrapping, mucking out, cleaning pens
  • Tractor driving, field and yard work, general maintenance of tractors to include greasing, oil level checks, filters and other routine tasks
  • Milking on a rota basis (training to be provided)
  • Spotting of bulling cows and presented for AI
  • General cow health, observation and treatment, to include calving and mastitis treatment, recognition of illness, liaison with Employer, taking cow temperatures and general observation of good cow health, where appropriate
  • Fencing and general farm maintenance

We have an onsite static caravan for accommodation.

About the employer

 R Brown & Son is a family run farm. We milk 350 crossbred spring calving cows supplying milk for Long Clawson Cheese.  We run a New Zealand style system. Our cows are turned out in February once they have calved and are rotationally grazed on 38 paddocks. Grazed grass is the main part of their diet.  We aim to achieve a low cost robust simple Profitable system.
