You will work both in a team and by yourself on support tickets and projects ranging from basic virus removal to network/server installs.

The right candidate will be able to develop their skills and progress from, technical support to technical project management for client-based projects. Required Technical Skills:

  • Able to diagnose and resolve technical issues on PC, Mac, and Server operating systems
  • Basic understanding of Windows networking within a Business
  • Desktop and Server hardware knowledge/troubleshooting
  • Knowledge with basic networking such as DHCP, DNS, VPN’s
  • Some Knowledge with Microsoft 365 (Exchange)
  • Setting up and configuring new laptops and desktops
  • Undertaking small- to medium-sized IT projects

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good communication and organisation skills
  • Full UK Driving License but not essential 
  • Experience with the following: DHCP, DNS, VPN, Windows Server, Windows 10

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE A*-C/9-4 in maths and English or equivalent
  • A minimum 12-18 month’s experience in 1/2nd line IT Support or have completed an IT support apprenticeship

Future prospects

  • We are very keen to expand this role further after the placement/apprenticeship has been completed successfully, with the potential to continue within the company in a support Engineer role

  • The salary range for this role is £17,000 - £19,000 per year

Network Engineer Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard: -

A training Plan will be set up with weekly progress meetings with the technical supervisor and your college/training provider. this will include reviewing their attendance, timekeeping, teamwork, communication skills and work progress.

During your off the job training at Kingston College you  will develop the necessary Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours to be a competent Network Engineer

  • Understands and applies the principles of networking, protocols and associated technologies (specifically this should include the latest published versions of OSI layer model, IP, TCP/IP, routing and switching, WANs, LANs)
  • Understands and applies the applied maths required to be a network engineer (e.g. algorithms, data, binary, probability and statistics)
  • Understands the causes and consequences of system failure including load balance and storage protocols and responds appropriately
  • Understands the architecture of a typical business IT system, including hardware, OS, server, virtualisation, middleware and applications
  • Understands and responds to security threats, firewalls and vulnerabilities
