This is an exciting opportunity to kick start a career in the Poultry industry with  H R Edwards & Son.

As a Stockperson Apprentice, you will support the day-to-day duties on a modern Broiler Poultry site for the rearing of chickens.

You will work alongside the farm manager to develop the range of skills and knowledge to ensure the smooth running of the farm. Daily duties will include:

  • Daily flock checks and husbandry procedures
  • Complete all record cards as required by Farm Manager
  • Keep site clean and tidy
  • Complete all daily tasks in line with company biosecurity
  • Communicate any problems found to the Farm Manager
  • Ensure compliance with the company Health & Safety policy
  • Ensure the correct PPE is used for tasks undertaken
  • Comply with company relevant policies and regulations
  • Any other duties required by your manager

Possible duties could include:

  • Assist with bird placement and de-population
  • Assist with minor farm maintenance

This will be a great environment for an Apprentice looking to train and develop within the poultry industry.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • This is a physically demanding role & will involve animal husbandry & handling
  • Someone who is practical and can also record information accurately
  • You must be able to follow set methods and procedures
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
  • Ability to be aware of problems and ask for help
  • Good set of communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative

Desired qualifications

  • Must be willing to undertake and successfully complete minimum Level 2 Poultry Apprenticeship within the 18-month contract of employment
  • GCSE’s English & maths (A-D/8-3 grades or equivalent) - Preferred but not essential

Future prospects

Potential full-time employment on successful completion of apprenticeship along with opportunities to progress onto an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in the poultry industry.

Things to consider

  • Candidates will need to ensure they can reliably get to our farm; we are based just outside Bodenham
  • Due to Hygiene and Biosecurity you will be declined a position if you currently keep or are in contact with any poultry
