The role of School Business Support Apprentice  with Canklow Woods Primary School is a fantastic opportunity for an organised and reliable School Business Support Apprentice to join their team in September 2021.  Working alongside a small, existing team of Reception and Administrative Support Staff, you will be pivotal to the smooth running of the school office. The first point of contact for many members of the school and external takeholders, you will be able to turn your hand to any admin-related task that is required. You will have a positive work ethic and can-do attitude, able to work in a busy, but friendly, office environment.

And DAY to DAY?

This Apprenticeship involves learning and putting into practice the broad range of reception and administration skills, including customer care and IT skills, required in a busy school office.

As part of this role, you will be undertaking office duties such as handling telephone calls, photocopying, scanning, emailing, maintaining files and records, assisting in the planning and preparation of meetings, maintaining office supplies, responding to parent and pupil enquiries, maintaining public display areas and noticeboards and developing and maintaining effective work relationships with colleagues, pupils, parents and visitors to School. You will be based in our reception area and will become the first point of contact for our School.

Term time working arrangements are routinely operated within schools which involves you attending your place of work during the School’s normal opening dates. There is also an expectation that you will continue with your studies including, attendance at your training provider during holiday periods.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a friendly and professional reception service to all visitors and callers, responding to enquiries sensitively, resolving appropriately, directing more complex calls to appropriate staff
  • Researching, preparing and supplying information
  • Using IT applications to support the full range of office processes
  • Organising, arranging, preparing and minuting meetings, ensuring meetings and events are arranged and prepared for in a timely manner and are serviced and recorded appropriately
  • Developing and maintaining office procedures - such as distributing mail and maintaining public areas
  • Carrying out finance-related activities
  • Developing an understanding of Trust and School policies, respecting and adhering to at all times
  • To ensure documents/reports are produced and formatted to school standards and within school deadlines
  • Liaising with staff, pupils, or other outside agencies on behalf of the Headteacher/Leadership Team as required to gather, receive and exchange information
  • Providing an effective, flexible and responsive administrative/business support service to Senior Leadership Team; this may involve providing reprographics services in line with the requirement of the school

Desired qualifications

You need GCSE or equivalents in English and maths (Grade 4/C or above).

Future prospects

Fixed Term Apprenticeship 18 Months from September 2021 There is a strong possibility of a permanent role – if you prove yourself to be a valuable member of the team there is a strong chance of a permanent post within the business.

  • Undertaking studies/coursework to prepare for external examinations

Please note you are ONLY Eligible to apply for this role if:

  • You have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years (there are some exceptions to this. Applicants will need to be considered on case-by-case basis as required).
  • You are not in full time compulsory education
  • You are able to meet the entry requirements of the qualification and to undertake the studying and coursework required to complete the course
