The nursery also have an after-school club for children from reception year to year 6 so there is an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills with slightly older children also.

Your working week will be varied but typical roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned activities with children with and without support from a qualified practitioner
  • Following nursery routines and activities
  • Having a small number of key children when we feel you are ready and to help with your qualification
  • Helping to set up and clear away at the beginning and end of the day
  • Preparing and serving snacks and aiding the children at mealtimes
  • Supporting nursery staff with various duties throughout the day
  • Ensuring the nursery is kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Ensuring the children are kept safe at all times
  • Keeping up to date with coursework
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate for your role

Personal qualities

  • The ideal apprentice will be self-motivated, friendly and someone who is passionate about childcare with a willingness to become part of team and work hard to gain their qualification

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE grades A*-C or 4-9 in maths and English Language, or equivalent. If you do not have these grades you must be willing to work towards them

Future prospects

  • There would be an opportunity to continue working with the nursery group as an practitioner once qualified

  • You must be able to gain a clear DBS Check
  • Be able to commute to Totton College on a monthly basis in addition to commuting to the nursery on a daily basis

Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You will be required to attend Totton College once a month for Early years workshops
  • In addition to this you will also been seen within the workplace on a 1:2:1 support basis by a qualified assessor/coach
  • Should you be required to up skill your maths or English to a GCSE Level 4/C or equivalent then you would also be expected to attend classes with a functional skills tutor
  • In order to gain the full qualification, you will also be required to gain a Paediatric First Aid Certificate
