The UK Buying team to create a single and cohesive customer offer for our large UK customer base and then work with the wider business to bring these products to life on site, via social media, in the press and more. It’s a varied role which covers a lot of ground.

Buying: Here in the UK we analyse the gaps in the product range sourced by our French buying team some of which does not adhere to UK safety regulations, does not appeal to a UK customer or where the UK simply has demand for a different trend. Creating new ranges, preparing and publishing to make them available to browse and buy involves working with teams around the business which includes Product Management, the wider marketing team, Finance and IT. We have new opportunities every week but the buyers work hard to review, analyse and challenge suppliers to maximise the profitability of opportunities with the support of the buying assistants to make informed decisions based on what the web data and financials tell us. An important aspect of the role involves working with our Product Management team. This team is responsible for setting up, checking and putting all products on site for the whole business. We work closely with this team supporting them on product set up, ensuring we provide a high quality of information and imagery from our suppliers that is consistent with the high quality that La Redoute is known for. Whilst the majority of the role is computer-based admin, this can vary from spreadsheets in Excel to learning and using many bespoke systems. There is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the products, liaise with suppliers and gain commercial knowledge from the buyers. Attention to detail, resilience and a can-do attitude is imperative. We have fun, work hard & love what we do!

About the employer

La Redoute came to the UK in 1995 and is fondly remembered as one of the first UK retailers to offer French fashion to the UK customer. It started life as a catalogue, transforming into an online retailer in the last 5 years. The UK team consists of c. 100 people who work across a variety of teams including Brand, Marketing, Product, Buying, Analytics, Financial Services, Operations, IT, Accounts, Customer Service and Support. We are based at the UK office in Bradford where we run the business. We work closely with colleagues at Head Office in France and we are in regular dialogue with colleagues in various countries and time zones, which can make for interesting conversations. The Buying Assistant role is part of the Marketing team, the liveliest in the business, as you would expect! The Marketing team are responsible for planning, delivering, and analysing the trading performance of the business, which in basic terms means getting sales and new customers every day. The local buying team are critical to delivering a cohesive single customer offer in the UK… Without them we would not be able to sell a lot of products due to stricter regulations in the UK than our European colleagues have to face and of course electricals due to the humble 3 pin plug we have in the UK vs a 2 pin in Europe. Over the last 3 years this function has grown from nothing to be larger than a lot of our traditional areas and has plans to keep growing at a phenomenal rate. We have buyers working across fashion, home and electricals so there is a variety of products to work on and learn about. The teams in our Head Office in France are responsible for buying and selecting some the products that we sell. We work with them to understand which gaps we need to fill locally and that we range products that are complimentary. They value our feedback into what works and what doesn’t for the UK customer. But that’s just the start!

Leeds City College training: We will support and coach the apprentice through the apprenticeship standard. We will carry out both curriculum and pastoral care.
