About the employer

Lowther Endowed School is handily located in the beautiful Eden Valley between Penrith and Shap, in the village of Hackthorpe. Our catchment area consists of 6 villages and many rural hamlets and farms, but we welcome children from other areas too.

Our school has four classes. Hedgehogs: Reception and Year 1, Squirrels: Year 2 & 3, Otters: Year 4 & 5 and Badgers: Year 5 & 6. We have spaces available in all year groups.

We're fortunate to have excellent facilities, including a hall and large classrooms, along with excellent outdoor facilities such as playing field, large wildlife area and playground. We also have the use of the local tennis courts, where we can play netball and football. The school has a dedicated Forest School area in the forest nearby.

Our meals are fantastic! Cooked on site by our own cooks Kerry and Julie. We use locally sourced food wherever possible, along with food grown in our own school gardens. The menus are regularly updated and the children particularly enjoy 'class choice week' when they can choose their favourite menu for Kerry and Julie to cook.

We have an after school club, which is very popular!  We also have a breakfast club and an 'early bird' drop off club available.

We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including a great outdoor residential trip to Lockerbie Manor, and an action-packed urban residential to Liverpool.

We consider PE to be a very important part of our curriculum and are providing the children with opportunities to try a range of sports such as orienteering, fencing and archery alongside the more traditional school team games.
