As part of this Apprenticeship you will be enrolled on to the Level 2 Supply chain warehouse operative training programme,

You will be supported by your employer and by your training provider whereby you will be given a dedicated Skills Tutor who will visit you on a 4 – 6 weekly basis and deliver a bespoke teaching and learning session as well as coach and give feedback also support you with your evidence collation.

The programme will last around 15 months and at the end you will complete an end point assessment.

Sherburn in Elmet - Leeds

This Apprenticeship is paid at National Minimum wage, Under 18's £4.15 - £4.62ph, 18-20 £6.56ph, 21-22 £8.36, 23ph+ £8.91ph

Your daily roles and responsibilities are as follows:


  • Unloading of deliveries, checking condition of goods received
  • Storing goods in correct locations ready for picking in good condition
  • Record batch codes & best before dates as part of the booking in process
  • Replenish stock creating pallet spaces & record movement
  • Responsibility for hygiene and housekeeping within the warehouse
  • Preparing orders for customer collections throughout the day
  • Lifting at height using reach trucks and safety ladders
  • Adhering to all health and safety rules and food regulations
  • Order picking via pick notes from ambient chilled and frozen locations which is the main duty on the late shift

As the programme moves into the transport side, you will learn how to load and unload vehicles and deliver temperature controlled stock to customers, finally at the end of the programme Walker Humphrey Ltd will look towards putting the apprentice through a class 2 HGV license.

Transport Logistics

  • Order picking and cross checking of products including temperature checks
  • Delivering to bakeries, butchers, cake & farm shops in Northern England
  • Performing daily vehicle safety checks in line with current guidelines
  • Collecting payment from customers / dealing with product returns

Future prospects

Whilst this is a Warehouse operative the aim is to do it over a 3 year period so that it makes it more interesting for the apprentice and they stay with us. Hence why the driving is brought into it. So we are wanting them to learn all aspects of the warehouse logistics.
