We are looking for an apprentice to join us as a Level 2 Engineering Operative, working as part of a maintenance team in a busy workshop servicing and repairing garden machinery including: 

  • Ride on lawnmowers
  • Lawn mowers
  • Strimmers

This role will include:

  • Mechanical repairs on 2 Stroke and 4 stroke engines
  • Mechanical and electrical fault finding
  • Building up components and sub-assemblies into finished electrical or mechanical products
  • Fitting parts to machinery and equipment
  • Cutting and shaping parts and tools
  • Operating machine tools, like lathes, grinders and borers
  • Applying finishes and surface coatings to products
  • Moving raw materials and finished products around the workplace

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience with hand tools 
  • Some basic knowledge of engines.
  • Able to ask questions when stuck and work without supervision,
     

Personal qualities

  • Hard working with a mature outlook
  • Willingness to learn 
  • Keen interest in fault finding and repairing things
  • Good work ethic 

Desired qualifications

  • Basic Maths and English at level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Functional skills support available if required if not at level 2 standard.

Future prospects

This is a Level 2 engineering qualification which is a good  all-round start to a career in engineering.

Progression to level 3 is possible and this qualification can be applied to a wide variety of roles.

The mechanical pathway suits roles with an element of mechanical function and can be expanded to include electrical or welding where required.

Things to consider

Rural Location, must be able to travel to the site.

Must be able to travel to Great Yarmouth one day per week for college.
