All candidates will get training in all areas of the kitchen, working from the trainee all the way up to head chef roles.

This will be a combination of internal training along with 1 day per week college attendance and Apprenticeship training and support via Lancaster & Morecambe College.

The candidate will have nationally recognised qualification, and this will be ongoing through the length of the successful applicant's employment.

This will include:

  • Knife skills
  • Food safety training 
  • Health and safety training

In the kitchen, the main responsibilities daily will be working with the chef to prepare, cook and plate the meals.

Other duties include:

  • Studying recipes
  • Setting up menus
  • Ensuring meals are prepared on time

4 GCSEs at grades D/3 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.

Candidates who have not attended an Apprenticeship Interview at LMC prior to Interview must achieve at least a Level 1 on the Initial Assessment to be complete prior to enrolment.

Transport can be discussed during the interview process and transport can be provided however arrangement for your own travel would be preferred.

Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Relevant training will be provided through Lancaster and Morecambe College in order to successfully complete the Commis Chef Apprenticeship programme, subject to attending an Apprenticeship Preparation Training Session here at Lancaster and Morecambe College.
