Duties to include:

  • To prepare cuts of meat to shop standards, with guidance
  • To serve and engage with customers, always being polite and helpful
  • Preparation of catering orders when required
  • Cleaning duties as standard practice
  • Involvement in preparing the deli counter

Desired qualifications

No specific qualifications are required, however a good level of Maths and English is expected. 

You will be required to achieve functional skills Maths and English Level 1, unless you can provide evidence of grades A-C in GCSE, or equivalent. 

Future prospects

There may be an opportunity to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship in butchery, or a permanent position in the company. 

Things to consider

Heavy lifting of produce from time to time. 

You'll be working in a chilled environment standing for long periods of time. 

You must be comfortable handling raw meat.

About the employer

Highams Butchers has been running for over 35 years. Darren, who started the shop still works at Higham Butchers alongside the owner Leon, Butcher Rob and Satuday lad Leevi. Rob is an experienced butcher of over 30 years and has been at the shop for over 10 years. The shop is a well known gem in the heat of the community. Highams is known fo it's ecellent customer service and quality meats. Highams Butchers offer great quality products at a fair price using traditional butchery methods - they buy whole bodies of beef, lamb, poultry and pork. Alongside serving their long standing customers, Highams also provide a service to local pubs and restaurants.
