This Apprenticeship is the perfect starting point for an individual who is looking to get into the butchery industry. You will work with the highly reputable and knowledgeable butcher to develop a wide skillset to ensure you can start your career in this exciting industry.

The job will comprise of learning a full range of butchery skills and duties will include:

  • Preparing and cutting carcases
  • Preparing and cutting specific joints/cuts of meat
  • Making sausages/gammons/burgers/ready meals
  • Assisting with counter display/setup/clear down
  • Serving/greeting customers
  • Gathering/packing for deliveries/orders
  • Freezer/fridge stock control

We are looking for a keen individual with good communication skills and a genuine interest in the butchery trade who is willing to listen and learn the art of good butchery and hopefully go on to be an established member of the team at G.Shurey and Son butchers.

This will be a great learning environment for an Apprentice looking to master the trade of butchery.

You will be required to attend monthly development workshops with the Master Butcher at Poultec Trainings Butchery Academy in Mattishall.

We are a traditional family butcher offering fine quality meats and food. Our meat is sourced from local farmers. We share a passion for offering top quality and fully traceable produce.

Our desire is to produce quality meat from traditional breeds and this is achieved by our high standards of animal welfare and skilled butchery. We pride ourselves on best local quality meats. All our meat is sourced from farms within East Anglia, we use four suppliers to ensure that we get the best quality products we can, HG Blakes (Norwich, Norfolk), Weddel Swift (Norwich, Norfolk), Bramfield Meats (Bramfield, Suffolk), Diaper Poultry (Stowmarket, Suffolk). These are all stockists of Assured Quality Standard of Meat.

We offer sausage making schools to the public where they can learn how to make their own sausages. Make 5lb of handmade sausages to take home, learn about the sausage making process and have lots of fun while you are at it. Only £25 per person, £40 per couple. We are now expanding the business with a butchery counter at Roscoes Deli.

The eighteen month work based Apprenticeship will include the following training:

  • Level 2 Food Safety Award
  • Level 2 Health and Safety in the Food Supply Chain Award
  • Level 2 knife Skills Award
  • Functional Skills (if required)
  • Preparation for End-point assessment
  • End-point assessment

You will be required to attend monthly development workshops with the Master Butcher at Poultec Trainings Butchery Academy in Mattishall.
