Main duties:

  • Assisting in installation
  • Service and maintenance of refrigeration systems 
  • Service and maintenance of air conditioning systems
  • They include taking responsibility for completing tasks and procedures and exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance
  • Full training will be provided

Must have the ability to select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well defined tasks and address straightforward problems.

  • Must be flexible and willing to travel as out of town work will be necessary
  • Willingness to learn and apply that learning in the workplace/job role
  • Ability to demonstrate that they have the potential to achieve the qualifications which are part of the Apprenticeship programme

  • Good colour vision to recognise colour-coded wires and components
  • Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces

  • A hardworking individual who has a proactive approach to their work, with good attention to detail
  • A helpful and friendly approach is essential

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE grade C/4, or above, or the equivalent in maths and English is desired

Very good prospects for the right candidates with the possibility of securing a permanent position within the company on completion of the Apprenticeship.

The successful candidate will need to complete all of the following elements of this combined qualification to complete the Advanced Level Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard and will include:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems (6090-20)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems (6090-30)
  • Level 2 Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I (2079-11)
  • Functional Skills in English and mathematics, if required
  • 20% of contracted hours as off-the-job training
  • End-point assessment

Once the learner starts their employment they will attend Chamber Training 3 day per week 9.30am - 4.30pm with 1 hour for lunch (once a month - dates TBA). This allows for the 20% off the job training that is a mandatory requirement (Must be at least 20% of the time; is paid and outside the normal day-to-day working duties and recorded). The hours spent training are part of their contractual hours of pay. Learners who do not achieve a Grade 4 or above in Maths and English will also be required to do Functional Skills as part of the programme.
