Duties will include:

  • Working with both the confectionery and bakery departments to create a wide range of fresh cakes and baked goods
  • Working as part of the confectionery team to create all the fresh cream cakes for the shop on a daily basis, gateaux for sale and for orders as well as a large range of fancy cakes and non-fresh cream gateaux. This department also does provide certain desserts for the Dining room
  • Working in the bakery to create items such as brownies, shortbreads and billionaires slice to be enrobed in chocolate
  • Learning how to use the enrobing machine to create a full range of chocolate covered goods for sale in the shop
  • The role will involve occasionally spending time in the other departments such as and the cake decorating department and chocolate room, to learn other basic skills

Desired qualifications

  • Previous qualifications are advantageous but not essential
  • 3 x GCSE that are grade 3/D and minimum of GCSE grade 1/G in maths and English

Future prospects

On successful completion of this apprenticeship you can:

  • Progress onto the Apprenticeship Standard Level 3 in Food and Drink or further training and employment opportunities in the food industry including Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Manufacturing or Level 3 Award in HACCP for Food Manufacturing
  • Progression to further learning in subject areas including Bakery production, Bakery science and technology, Food safety and quality and Food team leading/management
