Full Vacancy Description: A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee chef position at the Ashling Park vineyard, located in the beautiful hamlet of west Ashling.

This position currently offers up to 3.5 days work Thursday-Sunday respectively (Exact hours to be confirmed).

As trainee chef you will be working alongside our two experienced chefs in a brand-new state of the art kitchen. You will be involved in the day to day running of the kitchen. You will be expected to report directly to the chefs in a clean, presentable and punctual manner at the start of every shift.

Day to day duties will include:

  • All aspects of working in the kitchen environment
  • Washing up
  • Cleaning
  • Preparing ingredients
  • Cooking and plating dishes
  • Maintain a safe working environment

You will be shown how to prepare a variety of sweet and savoury dishes using fresh, local and seasonal produce using classic and modern techniques.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Full training can be given; however, we would at least expect you to have a fundamental understanding of the kitchen environment
  • The ability to organise yourself, good time keeping, and basic knife skills would be advantageous

Personal qualities

  • We are looking for enthusiasm, energy, initiative and a positive can-do attitude
  • Willingness to learn and a love for food is essential

Desired qualifications

For this standard GCSE grade 4/C or above in maths and English or equivalent is desirable, however all applicants will be considered on merit subject to initial assessment against the requirements of the standard. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel essential. Willingness to learn is key.

As this is a new operation, there is a great opportunity to contribute to the growth of an amazing kitchen venture and learn a comprehensive range of skills in a pleasant and inspiring environment along the way. Permanent job opportunities could be available for the right person. We also intend to begin the development of our own kitchen garden over the following years!
