Things to consider

The Golf Club is in the process of re-opening after lockdown, and there are exciting plans for growing the catering services.  Applicants will need to be flexible in their approach to working hours over 7 days, including evenings, and weekends, in order to support the business need.

The role will include learning, and developing practical skills in the preparation and service of food.  Menus are extensive offering breakfasts, of traditional bar meals and snacks, desserts, cakes and bespoke menus for customer bookings, ranging from working lunches to full wedding breakfasts for up to 120 covers.  In addition, other duties will include maintaining a clean and tidy work area, stock rotation and checks, and completing records

The successful candidate will need to be up for hard work, and show commitment to the small team, and in return, they will have a great opportunity to learn, and to become part of the successful team.

The on program learning will need to be completed before the end point assessment can be taken.

The candidate should check travel arrangements and ensure they have the ability to travel safely to/from work.


About the employer

Newcastle Golf Club is approximately one mile west of the market town centre of Newcastle, with easy access from Junction 15 off the M6 Motorway, the town centre and the wider area of Stoke-on Trent and North Staffordshire. The Club was founded in 1908, and the greens are an 18 hole classic English parkland course.

The comfortable clubhouse is at the heart of the catering facilities, with two bars and dining areas, which provide splendid views over the putting green and course, serving delicious homemade food and a range of beers, lagers and wines. Opening of these areas is to be extended to the wider public, so it is anticipated that customer numbers will increase dramatically. There is a beautiful lounge and dining area, that caters for corporate events, weddings and parties, seating up to 120 for a full wedding breakfast.

The Golf Club is now planning for re-opening following lockdown, and the management see a great opportunity for an apprentice Commis Chef to join the business at this exciting time, with the intention that they become an integral part of the Club team. The apprentice will have the opportunity to develop skills across the kitchen sections, under the guidance of the Head Chef, with the added opportunity to train at Stafford College one day a week.  It is essential that the apprentice has a real commitment to their craft, with an enthusiastic approach to learning, and be fully committed to the work of the whole team.

Hospitality Team Member (Food & beverage) apprenticeship standard. This is delivered with workplace training, and assessor support sessions to develop overall knowledge, skills, and behaviours to meet the apprenticeship standards and prepare for the apprenticeship exams.

Functional Skills maths and English to be achieved at L1, also taking a L2 test in each subject. (unless exempt by prior achievement). This will be delivered by specialist tutors either at Stafford, or Newcastle College campus or remotely.
