The successful applicant will train and develop as a Scientific Instrument Technician, acquiring valuable scientific knowledge and experience of scientific instrumentation and its applications whilst gaining recognised engineering qualifications.

Working alongside FMB Technicians and Engineers, the apprentice will train in the skills required for the assembly and test of components, sub-assemblies and final product to agreed specifications, quality and time/cost objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assemble and test sub-assemblies and final product in accordance to both quality standards and technical specifications
  • Manufacture components, fixtures and test equipment to project and product specifications
  • Participate in design and post project reviews
  • Communicate professionally with customers(internal and external) and suppliers
  • Preparation of product to ensure damage free transportation to customer site, including product documentation and liaison with shipper
  • All work to be carried out safely and in accordance with Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Participate in improvement projects and problem solving activities

Desired qualifications

A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) at Grade 5 and above, including English, Science and maths.

Development in the role of Technician may offer world-wide travel for installation and, with time and experience, potential to become a Production Cell Leader.

Things to consider

FMB Oxford operates a Flexible Hours Scheme, allowing a choice of start and finish times to suit individual requirements. Core hours which must be worked are 9:30-15:00.
