    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

If you enjoy working with people within a close knit team, like the idea of working hard to meet customer’s needs, enjoy working with computers and communication systems, then this is an exciting opportunity for you.

The Apprentice Parts Adviser co-ordinates all parts sales to ensure that customers and Technicians are always able to have the parts they require when they need them.

This involves:

  • Using the company’s sophisticated computer system to log stock movements and produce orders
  • Liaising with their colleagues
  • Developing selling skills to improve parts sales performance and dealing with enquiries from both trade and retail customers.
  • Your advanced apprenticeship will last approximately 2 years.
  • During this time you will attend block release training at the ProVQ National Automotive Training Centre in Shrewsbury for 12 weeks. For the remaining weeks you will be working full time in a vehicle parts supply centre.

A competent Parts Adviser has many transferable skills. It is not uncommon for Parts Advisers to progress through the ranks to become Assistant Branch Managers, Branch Managers, Regional Managers and even Directors!

No formal qualifications are required but you must be literate and numerate. Modern logistic support processes and systems are highly complex and you must have a desire to become a first rate Parts Adviser.

You should also be prepared to learn maths, English, and communication with a specific emphasis on the motor industry.

Qualifications required

Ideally you will be have or be predicted good GCSEs in English, Maths and Science (or equivalent qualifications) although these are not essential. You must however be literate and numerate.

Training provider

When successful you will be awarded:

  • Level 3, Advanced Apprenticeships (equivalent to two A-level passes):
  • VCQ Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Part Competence
  • VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Part Principles
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at Level 2

This will take approximately 18 - 24 months to complete. In total, across the Advanced Apprenticeship, you will attend 12 weeks of residential “off the job” training at the ProVQ National Automotive Training Centre in Shrewsbury. This is broken down into 1 week residential training blocks (a 2 week block at the start of the programme).
